So I asked myself, all these years, are all the cars still worth $2-$3? All this time have none of them increased in value? There are no gems? I believe not! I realized it's now been 10 crazy year of these cheap Treasure Hunts, and though collectors are not praising them, finding them still put a smile on my face. Because of this, you can find Treasure Hunts from 2013 to now for as low as $5 shipped, or at a local toy show $2-$3 as collectors are trying to get rid of them.īut I recently got the '71 Mustang Funny Car from the 2022 Treasure Hunts Series, completing another year. And though they are still produced less than normal mainline cars, they seem to be produced more than the original Treasure Hunts cars as one could easily find them as a peg warmer. To anyone that wasn't looking up guides and forums, finding 1 of the 15 annual Treasure Hunts cars where harder to find as knowing which car was a Treasure Hunts was a bit of a Mystery.Īs interesting of a concept as that is, many collectors did not like this as the cars picked looked like normal Hot Wheel cars that where not given any special treatment. That was until 2013, when Hot Wheels changed everything! Instead of the iconic green label, Hot Wheels decided to randomly pick cars and give them a circle flame logo, hidden within the decals of the cars. Making these cars a bit of a hunt to find, looking for those blister with the green sides and the "TREASURE HUNT" label. Usually 12 to 15 car per year where randomly picked and given the best treatment Hot Wheels could offer at the time, but released in smaller quantities compared to normal mainline cars. Treasure Hunts have been an important part of Hot Wheels collecting since their introduction in 1995. When you ask a collector for their first word (or two) to pop in their head when is comes to Hot Wheels, they would probably say Treasure Hunts!
